Here are some distinctions between truck glass issues vs. auto glass issues.

  • Experienced big rig truck drivers know that they ought to not trail other big rigs too closely in bad road conditions. This minimizes the likelihood of rocks kicking up.
  • Prevention is key and truck drivers recognize that. For that reason, they typically park in protected areas.
  • Truck drivers are experts. As soon as they do get a chip or crack in their windshields, they get it repaired as soon as possible.

Semi truck drivers and big rig truck drivers will have commercial insurance. Commercial truck insurance will have various levels of satisfactory equipment conditions than regular car insurance policies. Whenever a truck driver sees a glass issue, they must get it taken care of immediately. This will keep their truck in good standing with the commercial insurance policy. The glass that goes into a truck is normally a little more tough as opposed to a car's glass. But, if you operate a commercial truck or van, you understand that the risk you will face of damage as you log a lot of highway miles is a bit greater than the risk a driver of an economy car will face.

Ford F-150 Repair Help!?
Okay, So My Ford F-150 Is A 2001 And I Cannot Understand What Has Been Going On With It. First, The Tail Lights And Headlights Stopped Working. After They Came Back On The Horn Stopped Working. Now, I Cannot Shift At All When The Truck Is Running. I Can Turn The Key To The Start Position And Shift Then Turn The Truck On But If The Engine Is Running, I Am Unable To Shift Gears. Not Only That But The Windshield Wipers Dont Work And The Windows Do Not Roll Down. I Know It Sounds Like A Lot Of Electrical Problems, Which I Know It Is Because Its A Ford, But Is There Anything I Am Missing Here That I Cant Fix On My Own? I Am Pretty Car Repair Savvy, Is That Makes It Any Easier. If I Need The Extra Help, My Father And Uncle Are Even More Car Repair Savvy. Thanks For All Your Help!!

Some Ford owners have had problems with a leaky windshield which affects the GEM (General Electronics Module) module and numerous electrical system problems. You don't say whether this occurred during wet weather but my guess is that the GEM module contacts have gotten wet and corroded over time and has a problem. Check the area around the GEM module for signs of water leaking onto it...whiteish water tracks from the windshield area.

"GEM module is on the backside of the fuse panel itself. (Left lower side of the dash, near the park brake pedal). Part of the GEM module replacement process requires downloading the info from the GEM onto a scanner, and uploading it back onto the new unit. If you don't have access to a Ford STAR tester, this will prove to be a huge PITA. "

What To Do For A Cracked Windshield?
A Small Rock Or Piece Of Pavement Came Up On The Highway And Made A Small Crack Near The Middle Of My Windshield. Any Quick And Easy Way To Prevent The Crack From Spreading Or Removing It Completely? Thanks.

Windshield repair places will inject an adhesive or epoxy that will keep the crack from spreading. Its your most cost effective method. Your insurance might also cover it too.

I Ripped Up My Boyfriends Truck Badly... How To Repair?
Please Help Me Out Here... I Tore Out The Plastic/Glass Gauge Protector And The Wires/ Wiring Harness That You See When You Open Up The Glove Box And I Damaged The Air Bag. His Truck Still Drives, But None Of The A/C Works Except The Defrost Heat Near The Windshield. I Don'T Know What Other Damage Occurred By Cutting The Wires. What Type Of Expenses Am I Looking At? Where Should I Start, What Parts Do I Need Etc. A Whole New Dashboard? He'S Mechanical And Told Me If I Can Figure Out And Buy The Parts Needed, He Will Install Them So I Don'T Have To Pay A Huge Amount Of Money For Labor. I Know A Decent Amount About Car Engines/ Under The Hood For Being Female... But I'M Lacking In The Electrical Area So Please Keep That In Mind When Responding. I Know I'M Crazy, Need Help And He Shouldn'T Take Me Back Bla Bla Bla... But That'S Not What I Want To Know.

We need more information. What happened?
Anything involving an air bag can be VerY dangerous! It can go off while working on it, or not go off when needed. You will need a licensed mechanic to at least work on that. If a person ever buys this truck and the airbag is faulty you can be in big trouble.
You need to get a very good wiring diagram. I don't know if you need a whole new dash. Wires can be spliced together. Can you take it to a high school auto mechanics shop and at least have the teacher look at it? That would be cheapest, they generally do work for the price of parts, and maybe a bit more. The problem is they might keep it for awhile.
Good luck and don't do it again.
