How is big rig windshield care different from regular care?
- Semi truck drivers are trained to avoid following other big rigs that generally kick up pebbles on low-quality highways and roads.
- Semi truck drivers park in safe areas far from natural hazards or potential vandals.
- Truck drivers are experts. The moment they do get a chip or crack in their windshields, they get it fixed immediately.
One notable difference, however, is commercial vehicle insurance. To abide by higher insurance criteria, truck drivers must get their glass fixed as quickly as they experience an issue. Click for Windows Repair information.
The glass that goes into a truck is typically a little more tough as compared to a car's glass. Although that may hold true, trucks generally log more highway miles than cars. For that reason the probability of experiencing a glass chip or crack is much higher.

How Do I Replace A Window For A 1998 Ford F150 Super Cab?
My Truck Was Broken Into Last Week And They Broke The 3Rd Door Quarter Glass Window. I'M Looking For A Replacement Window. The Windows On My Truck Aren'T The Model That Have The Lever And Pop Out. They Are The Fixed Ones. I Was Wondering If I Could Replace The Broken One With One That Pops Open. Also I Was Wondering How To Take Off The Door Panel To Get To The Screws To Take Out The Broken Window. I Would Like To Keep The Cost As Low As Possible Because I Don'T Have Much Money. Any Help Would Be Appreciated. Thanks.
low cost eh? Home Depot. Duct Tape and Translucent plastic sheeting. Maybe $10 and works great
Is There A &Quot;Better Grade&Quot; Windshield That You Can Get For Your Vehicle?
Would Like To Know If There Are &Quot;Better Grade&Quot; Or Stronger Windshields Out There You Can Get For Your Vehicle (Cargo Vans In Particular) That Can Take Stone Hits Better Than Normal....Im Almost Interested In Bullet Proof Design If You Can Get It....I No More Than Install A New Windshield And I Get Hit With A Stone Or 2 And It Cracks Clear Across Before You Can Do Anything About It....Im On The Raod Alot. Thx For Any Good Help On This....Tired Of $200.00 Windshields Every 6 Months.
Ask your local glass shop. There are coated types of glass available at extra cost which will give greater protection and chip resistance.
"Bullet-proof" glass is usually just thick Lexan, which I don't think is approved for windshields normally. You should search out limo-building companies for better information on that.
Most insurance policies include full-coverage for glass ($0 deductable) so the replacements shouldn't cost you anything.
Just wondering, do you follow the 3-second rule (or at least two seconds) when following in traffic? Following close to dump trucks and other construction vehicles will make you more susceptible to windshield damage too.
Replacement Windshield Tape?
Ok So Today I Got My Windshield Replaced.
I Still Live At Home, So When My Dad Came Home He Commented On The New Windshield.
I Asked If He Noticed That At The Top It Had A Nice Fade. He Said No And That Hed Look Later.
Well, Anyways, I Go Outside At About 7:50 Pm To Lock My Car Up Since I Had Forgotten To Do So And My Dad Went Out To Look The Windshield Over And Lock Up His Truck For The Night...And He Was Looking It Over And I Say Oh Yea Im Supposed To Leave It Alone Til Tomorrow...But He Just Goes And Peels The Tape Up At The Top Of The Windshield Off! It Sat On There For 7 Hours...But I Was Told To Leave It Alone For 24. And I Start Telling My Dad Im Not Supposed To Mess With It And To Leave It Alone But Of Course He Just Tosses The Tape Aside. Should I Be Worried?? I Dont Know What I Am Supposed To Do Right Now.
It doesn't matter really, its to late. Its only there so like the windshield can dry, so it won't come off. I am pretty sure it has dried, considering it was already night.
What would tape do! Like seriously. They applied it when the glue was still wet, putting tape now would be dumb. It won't offer any support whatsoever. You are freaking out for something that is long past way done....
DON'T FREAK OUT! The only reason that tape was there, is so it could dry! Sitting a few hours in the sun, it would have already dried. Did you notice when you picked up the car at the shop how it was pointed at the sun! Without any sun it wouldn't have dried. That was only there for extra support. Trust me there is no problem! I have seen this many times. They tell you 24 hours because its a day! Its like a fail safe thing! 7 hours in the sun was enough time!
