How is big rig windshield care different from regular care?
- Experienced big rig truck drivers recognize that they ought to not trail other big rigs too closely in bad road conditions. This minimizes the possibility of rocks kicking up.
- Semi truck drivers park in safe areas far away from natural hazards or potential vandals.
- Truck drivers are specialists. When they do get a chip or crack in their windshields, they get it repaired right away.
One major difference, however, is commercial vehicle insurance. Most service vehicles must be in top shape in order to be driven, so truck drivers should swiftly address windshield damage to make sure that they do not violate the terms of the business vehicle insurance. The assembly of a truck's windshield glass is a little heavier duty than a car. But, if you drive a commercial truck or van, you know that the risk you will face of damage as you log a lot of highway miles is a bit higher than the risk a driver of an economy car will face.

The carport sits on the edge of a ravine near my parents home. It has 4 posts and a roof, no walls. My parents have always driven their cars forward into it and then backed out to leave.
The day my mom decided to turn around in the driveway and reverse into the carport, the brakes broke and her and the car went backwards through the carport and down the steep ravine.
I remember hearing my mom screaming and honking. When my dad and I ran out to the carport and peeked over the edge, we saw the car had gone almost all the way down and had been stopped and crumpled by a large tree. She was sitting in the seat looking up at us in pure terror, afraid to move. She was uninjured. With some encouragement from us, she climbed out the window and slid down to the creek. She walked about a 1/2 mile to the path leading up. My dad thought maybe she had just panicked (because she is not that good of a driver) and hit the gas instead of the brakes.
The car was winched out of the ravine and trucked to a repair shop. When my dad called the repair shop a few days later, he was told a pin had fallen out, the brakes had malfunctioned.
Whatever it was that made my mom decide to turn around in the driveway and reverse into the car port saved her life. She was not wearing a seat belt because she had undone it to get out and check mail at the begining of the driveway, If she had hit the tree facing forward, she would have been thrown into the windshield.
Serendipity, supernatural, divine intervention... who knows.
My Father Is Stealing Money From The Insurance Company.?
I Have My Car Insured Under My Fathers Plan. I Still Pay Him (My Car) For My Insurance Rate, But In His Plan It'S Cheaper Monthly.
Note My Father Is A Mechanic.
I Got A Chip In My Windshield. My Father (Guy Who Usually Fixes My Car) Immediately Demanded I Not Just Call Saflite And Let His &Quot;Business&Quot; Do The Repairs. At That Point It Was Just A Chip And Could Easily Be Fixed With Resin. He Threw A Fit, Literally Screaming, When I Said Just Let Saflite Do It. I Told Him Fine, You Do It. Unfortunately, His Business Can'T Make &Quot;Window Repair&Quot; Claims, I Have To Make The Claim, Have Them Inspect It, Then Send Me The Check. He Took A Month To Tell Me That. At That Point The Crack Was Too Big And Not A Single Repair Facility In The Town Claim It Can Be Fixed Without Replacing The Windshield.
My Father, Now, Demands I Call The Insurance Agency And Get A Bloated Quote, He Had One Of His Friends Shop Give Me (Really Like 150$ Over What Saflite Would Do For A Simple Windshield Replacement.).
What Is Really Messed Up About It Is, My Father Got His Bloated Quote, And Now He Refuses To Replace The Windshield, Claiming &Quot; All You Need Is A Crack Repair Resin&Quot;.
He Pocked Like 300$ On That.
I Was Hit In The Front Bumper Like 3 Months Ago. I Filed A Claim Against The Guys Insurance Agency That Hit Me, They Settled For Full Repair Amount And Sent Me The Check. I, Again, With My Father Demanding I Let His &Quot;Business&Quot; Do The Repair, Fix My Bumper. First Month, He Claimed &Quot; We Don'T Know How To Fix A Bumper&Quot; (They Are A Mechanical Repair Facility).
He Then Pinned The Bumper Up With A Bolt. One Bolt. And Called Me Claiming &Quot;I Fixed It&Quot;. He Pocked Around 2500$. Now He Is Refusing To Do The Real Repair That I Was Given The Money To Do. The Bumper Needs To Be Replaced.
This Is Just One Of The Things I Have Noticed About My Father Since I Have Been Back In Town Since Leaving College. I Am Disgusted With What I Have Been Seeing. He Is Stealing From His Customers. Ive Watched Him At 10-20$ To Part Costs For No Reason But To Up The Price. He Is Also An Alcoholic And He Drives Home Drunk At Like 4-6Am Every Night He Goes Out. His Business Owes The Irs Like 200,000$ Because He Was Taking The Sales Tax Paid By Customers And Not Sending It To The Irs.
Me Being Disgusted Is An Understatement With How I Feel About This Man. He Has Exemplified Everything I Hate About People. Not Only Irresponsible, But He Will Use Anybody At His Disposal With No Concern For Them, Then Blame Others For His Problems. (You Wouldn'T Believe How Often I Hear Him Crying &Quot;Damn Obama&Quot;).
Any Ideas What I Should Do? I Start Medical School In ~ 3 Weeks. At That Point I Am In Every Way Cut Off From Him. I Am Honestly Considering Calling The Cops The Next Time I Know He Is Out Drinking, And Get Him Thrown In Jail For Dui.
Not Only Have The Repairs Been Paid For By The Insurance Company, I Am Going To Just Have To Pay Another Repair Shop To Do It, Out Of My Pocket Because Of This Man.
Should I Just Spit On Him And Leave?
He's the stereotype of the reason why I won't go to mechanic shops. Don't let him near your money unless, you consider it charitable donation that can't be claimed on your taxes. If he acts pissy towards you, you might gently remind him that later in life, you might be wind up in charge of his medical and physical care decisions.
Please Tell Me How Can I Remove My Old Windshield Wiper ( Saturn 2003 Vue)?
I own a 2004 Saturn Vue. The wiper blades should be easy to replace. However, it depends on the brand of replacement blades that you have purchased. Personally, I recommend Bosch Micro Edge or Excel replacement wiper blades.
The wiper blades attach to the arm, which looks like a Shepard’s crook. Away from the windshield and towards the arm, push the tab on the backside of the swivel, where the blade attaches to the crook, to unlock the old blade. Gently, slide the old blade away from the crook.
Carefully, line up the new blade against the arm then slide the crook through the arm near the swivel. With the round side of the swivel facing forward, slide the new blade towards the crook. The new blade will lock into place. Before you hit the road, test the blades.
If you're really uncomfortable, many auto parts stores will install replacement wiper blades for you free. Good luck, I hope this helps.
