How is big rig windshield care different from regular care?

  • Semi truck drivers are taught to avoid following other big rigs that tend to kick up pebbles on low-quality highways and roads.
  • Avoidance is key and truck drivers recognize that. Due to this fact, they generally park in protected areas.
  • Your big rig windshield cracks or chips are fixed as soon as possible.

One key difference, however, is commercial vehicle insurance. Most service vehicles must be in tip-top shape to be driven, so truck drivers ought to immediately address windshield damage to make sure that they do not violate the terms of the business vehicle insurance. The glass that goes into a truck is typically a little more tough as compared with a car's glass. However, if you operate a commercial truck or van, you know that the risk you will face of damage as you log a lot of highway miles is a bit more than the risk a driver of an economy car will face.

Windshield FAQ

Rear Jeep Tj Window?
I Bought My 2001 Jeep Tj Last Year, And Was Told It Had One Previous Owner, Who Had Never Taken The Hard Top Off And Put The Soft Top Up. As Soon As It Was Nice Out, I Took The Hard Top Off And Managed To Get The Soft Top Up. Problem Is, The Back Window Flaps As There Is No Where To Snap It Into Place. There Are Supposed To Be Guards Or Ridges Of Some Sort (Like There Is On The Sides And Above The Doors - The Flap Folds Into/Under It), But There Are Not. I Do Not Know What They Are Called So Cannot Find Out How To Buy Replacements. Anyone Have Any Idea What They Are Called? Thanks.

Think what you need is called a tailgate retainer bar. It slides onto the bottom of the rear window and clips into the brackets on either side of the tailgate. Quadratec.com has this part.

Ford Focus Rear Window Won'T Stay Up.?
I Have An 02 Focus And The Rear Passagenger Window Will Not Stay Up. I Have Read That It Could Be A Regulator Issue. I Removed The Panel, Etc. And Can See The Problem. I See A Hanging Cable With A Blue Painted Spring Hanging Around. I See The White Clip That Holds The Window In Place To The Slider Thing. The White Clip Appears To Have 2 Fasteners On Each Side To Hold It To The Slide Assembly. Only 1 Fastener Remains And Some Plastic Parts Are At The Bottom Of The Door. It Also Appears That The Channel Sheared Which Kept The Blue Spring/Cable To The Fasterner. Ie, The Spring Cannot Be Secured To The Clip. Motor Works Fine, The Window Just Wont Stay Up. Question: Can I Buy A Replacement White Plastic Fastener (Junk Yard Or Not). What Is It Called? Connect It To The Slider, Insert The Springs/Cables And Save Myself From Buying A Regulator?

Your window regulator needs to be replaced. On that particular car, the regulator and window motor are serviced as an entire assembly. Go to your local Ford dealer parts department to price one out. They are actually pretty reasonable in price for what you get, if I recall correctly.

What Is The Best Truck To Purchase And Fix Up?
I Am Interested In Purchasing An Old Truck To Haul Yard Waste, And Tow A Small Trailer. Eventually, I'D Like To Buy A Small Boat And Possibly Use This Truck To Tow It To A Near By Lake. I Was Thinking About A 1/2 Ton Truck. Bottom Line, I'D Like To Get A Truck That Is Easy To Work On. I Do Not Have Any Experience Working On Cars/Trucks, So I Would Need To Buy A Chilton'S Guide (And Some More Tools). I Don'T Need Anything Fancy (No Power Locks, No Power Windows). It Can Be Either Auto Or Manual. I'M Looking For Any Suggestions.
