Your car's windshield is not like other, more mysterious car components. Yet it seems to be apparent in its use, however its significance can not be underrated.
Windshields are made using laminated glass. It incorporates two layers of special composite glass with a laminate in between the layers.

This serves to hold both layers together and gives a surface in the event of shattering for glass pieces to stick to.

Due the tight installation method as described above, the very best procedure is to have the repair work done on the original windshield, in place. I Fixed My Car And Then Someone Hit Me And It Was Totaled. Are They Liable For My Pre-Accident Repair Costs?
I Spent $400+ On Repairing A Window, And $800 On Various Maintenance Items. Less Than A Month Later, Someon Else Collided With Me (100% Their Fault) And My Insurance Company Totaled It Out. Is There Any Way To Sue Their Insurance For The Additional $1200 I Just Put Into The Car? I Have My Receipts For The Repairs - And They Were Within The Last 30 Days Before The Accident.
No. If the window hadn't been fixed, your car's value would have been dinged for the amount to fix it. Maintenance repairs to not affect the vehicle's value at all because you would have had to do them anyway if the car had never been hit.
It's a bitter pill, especially for folks who just spent a few thousand on a new transmission - but that is how it works.
Looking For Some Help Cleaning Windshield.?
Hello, I Was Wondering If Anybody Could Help Me Out. I Am Trying To Clean My Windshield. There Are These Streaks That Run Across The Path Of The Windshield Wipers, And I'Ve Tried A Couple Things I Had In The House, But Nothing Yielded A Result I Am Satisfied With. I Wouldn'T Mind If They Didn'T Defuse The Light At Night So Much, But As I Am Driving More And More At Night, This Is Becoming More And More Of An Issue For Me.
There'S A Picture For Reference. I Don'T Smoke, So There Shouldn'T Be Any Smokers Haze, And Like I Said, They'Re Distinctive Lines Ruing Across The Windshield Wiper Paths. First Thing I Did Was Replace The Blades, I Figured That Was A No-Brainer. But Actually Getting The Marks Off Is Proving To Be Quite A Task. I Went To A Gas Station (Lol) To See If One Of Their Wiper Things Could Make These Streaks Budge A Bit, But I Had No Luck. I Went Home And Tried The Armorall Wipes I Had Laying Around... No Luck. I Used Vinegar, No Luck. I Even Tried Something Completely Stupid And Sprayed Scrubbing Bubbles On It, Again With No Luck. From Here, I'M Convinced I Will Need To Buy Something And I'D Appreciate Any Advice You Guys Have To Offer! Again, Thank You In Advance. :)
Your best bet is to get the windshield buffed by a very qualified detailer, it will remove both the scratches and the lines. Its basically like sanding the windshield but at a smaller scale. Should cost around 100cad. If they are not qualified than they will break the glass because of the heat buildup
I have heard that putting draino or a strong acid will remove them but i havent dared to try it because I used to buff cars and windows all the time.
Rain X water repellant helps for the outside and Rain X anti fog helps for the inside but its not as good as buffing. Maybe try some good meguires car wax to remove scratches.
Or you can just get a replacement windshield for 300 cad.
Will Insurance Pay For A Cracked Windshield If It Happened Before I Was Insured?
I Just Purchased A Used Car, And There'S A Crack In The Windshield, Nothing Serious, But Whatever.
How Much Would It Cost Me To Get It Replaced, And Would By Insurance Company Pay For It? Lol
(Btw - Its A 1998 Ford Explorer)
No, it won't cover the crack that's already there.
But you can likely get it replaced, using a junkyard windshield, for less than your glass deductible.
Why Would Someone Steal Car Registration?
This Weekend A Family Member'S Car Was Broken Into Outside Of A Bar. They Smashed The Window, Went Through Everything In The Car, Dumped Out The Glove Box And Center Console, But The Only They Took Was The Registration. They Even Opened Up A Box That Had A Xmas Present For Me In It, And Didn'T Take It. They Left Cd'S, A Gps, Cash, A Phone Charger, And Credit Card. Literally The Only Thing They Took Was The Car'S Registration. What Can Someone Do With A Registration? I Highly Doubt Id Theft Because 1. Pretty Much All Personal Info On The Registration Can Be Found On Any Piece Of Mail And 2. The Car Is Registered Under My Parents' Names So All The Info Is Theirs. Also, This Family Member Lives In An Apartment, So It'S Not Like They Can Locate Where She Lives To Rob Her Place When She'S Not Home. What Can You Do With A Registration? I Was Thinking They Might Have A Stolen Car With The Same Make And Model They Want To Get Registered. Either That Or They Want To Get A New Key Made For The Car. But, If I Remember Correctly, You Can View The Vin From The Windshield So You Don'T Need A Registration To Get That. Any Ideas?
Odd. At first I thought your guess made sense - they have a similar car and want to have a fake registration but if they didn't also steal the plate that wouldn't be it. Any cop pulling you over is going to compare registration to plate. But I don't think they typically look at the VIN plate in the windshield (yes you can see it on any car) unless they suspect something.
A title is required to transfer ownership, but I wonder if someone could get a 'replacement' plate at a secretary of state/dept of motor vehicles with a registration? Seems like you'd also need to show an ID matching the address.
