Windshield Repairs in Weissport Pennsylvania

The windshield does not belong with the incomprehensible, under hood components. Yet it seems to be transparent in its use, however its importance can not be understated.

Windshield glass is a kind of laminated glass. They are manufactured using a layering technology. The outer layers are glass and the inner layer is a special laminate.

In many cases the inner layer is made of vinyl plastic. In simple words, it is a very tough plastic. This inside layer adheres to the two outer layers. This is the basis of how laminated glass is built. It will stop a windshield from shattering into hazardous glass shards.

Cars that are newly assembled have windshields installed by robots in the factory. This is a tightly regulated and monitored environment. Advanced alignment and installation procedures make certain that both molding and windshield are accurately fitted. Windshield repair is needed promptly if there is damage. Whenever possible, it is always advisable to have a repair done on the existing windshield, doing away with the need to change it. As long as the damage is small, like a small chip or crack, this is entirely possible. This is not possible if the crack has elongated, if the chip is in the driver's field of vision or the chip is larger that a coin.

If caught early enough the good news is that a simple chip or little crack can likely be repaired by DIY methods. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, then we advocate paying a visit to a windshield service center at once.

Many people discredit the value of a chip repair. But, if not taken care of immediately, the chip can become worse.

Windshield FAQ

Motor For A Window??
I Have A 1991 Lincoln Town Car And My Window Will Not Go Up Or Down....Im Sure Its The Motor For The Window...My Question Is How Could I Fix It...And Dose Any One Know How Much It Would Cost If I Went To Get It Fixed?

I repair them for $75.00 each. It is not a lot of trouble. But you have to be able to remove the door panel.

First, Do you hear the motor run? if not, it could be a bad switch. If you do hear it run, but the window won't move, it is most likely the transmission in the motor head. They use plastic gears and three "dogs" made of plastic and rubber which over time disintegrate. Remove the door panel, and drill out the rivets holding the motor/regulator to the door frame, then unbolt the motor and remove it from the regulator. The entire regulator does not have to be removed, or unbolted if you only want to remove the motor(the part the window slides on stays put). There is enough slack in the regulator cables to then get the motor out.

With the motor on the workbench, remove the one remaining screw form the tramsmission plate and remove it. Pull out the small plastice gear, and then the big one. You will see and feel a lot of ground up plastic and grease. Clean all that out real well. There is a repair kit made for those motors, but for years I have always repaired them with 1/4" nylon nuts. The go in the triangle area of the big gear, and act as the "dogs" for the samll gear. Once you see it, you will know what I'm talking about.

You can use metal nuts, or even ball bearings, or pieces of wood the replace those "dogs". It will still work OK, but the nylon more closely resembles what was in there to start with. The nylyon will also shear more easily than steel, and should protect the motor if it gets stuck.

Windshield Replacement?
If I Purchase A Windshield From A Junkyard Or Auto Part Place, Will Most Places Install It? Or Would I Have To Buy It For Them? (I'M Hoping To Get A Windshield That I Found For $75 Then Have Someone Put It In For $100-120, Instead Of Paying $300 For Some Place To Install It And Use Their Own) Or If I Purchase The Windshield Is It Fairly Simple To Install It Myself, (With The Help Of My Family Members Who Are Pretty Good At Cars)?

they will charge you about three hundred dollars anyways just to install a used window that you bought somewhere else so get a new one and unless you have all the correct tools don't install it yourself because if they don't do it correctly and it leaks they have to fix it if you do t incorrectly you have to take it to them anyways and have to pay them for doing it wrong

How Do I Replace A Passenger Side Car Window For A Ford F150?
My Window Broke And I Was Wondering If There Are Any Sources Out There With Pictures Or Video On How To Replace It. Im On My Phone At Work And Theres Limited Service And I Want To Be Able To Do This Right After I Get Off. I Have The Window And Ive Taken The Door Panel Apart And Looked At It And It Looks Easy, I Just Wanna Make Sure I Dont Miss Anything By Actually Seeing It Done. Pretty Sure Its Just Clamped In...

First thing first. You must absolutely get ALL the glass out of the channel first. This is best done by removing it from the door and opening it up to let the little shards of glass fall out. Wear gloves for this. Once all the glass is removed, install the window. This is simple with the rubber channel removed. Set the glass in the regulator and run in the bolts. Do not tighten them yet. With the window rolled all the way down, reinstall the rubber channel sliding it over the sides of the glass and down the track. This gets tighter the further down it goes but it will go. Once it is back in place, reinstall the door panel.

But remember, if ALL the glass is not removed from the rubber channel, your new window WILL explode from a little shard rubbing the edge.

What Can I Use To Clean My Car Windshield That Wont Leave A Film?
Whenever I Clean The Inside Of My Car, I Always Am Left With This Film On The Inside Of My Window. If I Am Driving Into The Sun, This Is A Problem, It Gets Kind Of Hard To See. I Don'T Know If It Is Cleaning Product Im Using On The Windows (Windex) Or If It Because I Armor All My Interior And Then The Sun Bakes It And It Evaporates Onto My Windshield. Does Anyone Know What The Problem Is And A Possible Solution?

Stay away from the Windex and any ammonia-based window cleaners. These are not formulated to clean "vinyl fog".

Try using a product specifically formulated for auto glass that is also safe to use on tinted windows. Autozone, PepBoys, Kragen...just about everybody sells these products. Just make sure that it is ammonia and preferably alcohol free.

Good luck.
