Windshield FAQ

How Much Is A Basic Steering Wheel And Windshield Replacement?
I Just Got In An Accident, And I Wish To Start Driving Asap. My Insurance Will Only Pay For The Other Vehicles Damages, Not Mine. I Just Need To Know How Much Your Steering Wheel And Wind Shield Replacements Cost, I Can Try To Fix My Right Turn Signal Myself.

Ouch.

A windshield should run about $2-300. Steering wheel, maybe $40 at a junk yard, or aftermarket replacement.

However, you should know that the visible damage is only one thing to consider. Your car may have damage which is undetectable, such as broken motor mounts, frame damage, cracked hoses, etc. etc. etc.

A word of advice - junk the car, and carry insurance next time (comprehensive and collision, not just liability). Why invest more money into a broken car?

Does The State Of Florida Cover Windshield Crack?
I Am Not Sure But I Had Heard Somewhere That If A 18 Wheeler Or A Construction Truck Chips Your Window The State Of Florida Covers It. Does Anyone Know About This And How To Go About It?

You must still have insurance coverage on your car that covers glass. The Florida law simply states that you won't be charged the deductible for it. So if you have insurance, essentially yes it is free.

Car Insurance Policy?
From Out Of Experience Or Knowledge, What Is The Best Type Of Car Insurance For A 19 Yr Old College Student? If The 19 Yr Old Will B The Policy Holder & Not Under Any Parents. & What Type Of Coverage Is Recommended? Any Other Advice As Far Insurance Goes? Thanks In Advance.

Ok, when I was 19 (and still hold the same coverages today......

Average cheap car $1000-$2000 value, "already paid off"

Monthly Payment plan

State Farm

Liability (required)

Comprehensive with a $0 deductible. Comp fixes broken glass/Theft/Fire.

($1000 deductibles are for "Collision" then you have to cough up the first Thou, and really when you ask your agent, it isnt that much cheaper anyway).

($0 deductible because it doesn't cost much and I wouldn't have the cash to pay out in case of say, a windshield replacement or stolen stereo, But I always have the money to pay my insurance every month. The $0 deduct cost is only like $3 extra a month. I dont have $100/ $200, or $500 laying around to fix stuff, and when a regular stereo is $169 The whole thing gets paid for, not me getting a check for $69 and I have to pay the first hundred (I dont have it). State farm is good, they dont increase your rates for Comprehensive claims.

Aso: "uninsured Motorist" WITH "Property damage". this covers your medical if you get hit by some uninsured jerk, and the "with Property damage" (you have to ask for that part) covers your car damage up to $10,000. this is only $3 or $4 a month.

Towing..reimburses you if you have to tow your car to a shop, or if you have AAA, will reimburse you for the "over milage" that you will have to pay if you have basic AAA service.

I dont cover "collision" it doubles my bill, and Im a safe enough driver to not hit people. Plus I can always go get another cheap car. I`m not worried about Image. I hate newer cars anyway, they cost too much to fix. (but that`s a whole `nother story....

Do Insurance Companies Send Assessors Out To Cars With A Cracked Windshield?

That claim would be fraudulent, wouldn't it?
No, they don't send adjusters to check cracked windshields, but be up front about what caused the crack, a lie always comes back to bite one in the butt at some point in time. Remember, glass companies have notes made by the technicians that are used to complete and close the file.
A truthful explanation should result in the appropriate repair, assuming your friend has the proper coverage for glass.
A lie could result in a problem with the claim, or even affect a person't ability to renew the policy. You expect an insurance company to be straight and truthful with you, the insurance companies rightfully expect the same from clients.
